For today’s conversation I would like to discuss the importance of being prepared. A couple of weekends ago, me and my daughter were able to see the consequences of not preparing for what you are asking for. When a person knew received what they were praying for, this individual was not ready and incapable of handling their new and increased responsibilities which led to frustration and a lot of confusion. Over the years I have heard and knew many people who have prayed and prayed for many things but when they finally received, it was evident that they really did not realize that they did not consider the responsibility that can with it.

Reality checklist.

Before we come before the Lord with our “long laundry list” of things that we want, we need to really ask ourselves do we really want or even handle what we are asking God for? Here are a few questions that I believe we should be asking ourselves when considering bringing these petitions before God:

I’m I really ready for this?

Do I really want or need this?

Have I done my research?

Have I considered the upkeep to be able to maintain this?

I’m I mentally, financially, and spiritually prepared?

Most importantly: Will I still have time for Lord?

Aware of consequences.

These questions are really important to ask yourself because many times we behave like little children asking for a dog or something else and when we recieve it we are excited for a short time but later regret asking. No longer do we like it or want to take up the responsibility to maintain it. For those who are desiring to be married, Paul explains in Cor 7:32-33 that those who marry will care for those things of the world and those who are not married will be more mindful of how to please God. From this passage it helps us to be aware of the consequences of our choices. It is imperative that we are being realistic and practical about our capabilities because your life and perhaps the lives that are involve will be effected as well.

In Conclusion.

So inconclusion, my hope is that we will be wise in our asking. It is not just enough to want something but we have to really take inventory of what all may come with this petition. It is also important to not allow social media to influence you, in other words, are you only asking because someone else has it our is it really a desire of your heart? Above all seek first the kingdom of God and His righteous and all these things will be added to you, Matt. 6:33. So remember, take it one day at a time and stay encouraged in the Lord.
