So, today our conversation is about the goodness of knowing God. I got today’s topic from my time in pray and I think it’s great to remind ourselves how good it is that we have a relationship with God. The scripture that came to mind during that time was Psalm 103. The 2nd verse says, ” Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not His benefits”. You know it is so important to realize that we have a loving Father, a Savior, and the Holy Spirit living within us. He has given us everything we need to overcome and win in life. So let’s further discuss just a few of the amazing good things that we have with knowing God.

Companionship

The more that I spend time with the Lord, the more I realize how the companionship with the Holy Spirit is so vital and so satisfying. I know that I am not by myself. There was a time in my life that I did feel lonely which led to me getting into no good relationships, falling into sin, and accepting treatment from others that was less than I deserved. Fortunately what these negative experiences pushed me into was cultivating and relying on God as my constant reliable source. Having this relationship helps me to know my worth, which causes me to make better choices. The Holy Spirit really helps you overcome sin and make better decisions. Even in the hard times I am know that the Lord will see me to the other side of those mountains and through the valleys.

Wisdom

When we have a relationship with God we can receive the wisdom that we need to make the right decisions. Many times I will tell God to please help me in certain situations. I would ask Him to give me His perspective or how should I handle a particular case and He would direct me. In the book of James 1:5, we are told that we should ask God for wisdom when we are lacking it because God is so willing to give it. Also in the book of Proverbs 2:20-21 it says, “that wisdom cries aloud in the streets, in the markets she raises her voice; at the head of the nosey streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:” Basically in every arena in our lives wisdom wants to help us make the right decisions. Even now in my life I am asking God to give me more wisdom. Why should we continue to make decisions alone when God really wants to help us. In my opinion, this is so amazing and a no brainer. The only prerequisite is that you are not double minded and believe that God has the right answer for you.

Contentment and Joy

These two words alone are incredible. It takes the experience of life to a whole new level. I believed that I shared here on my blog that I went to a revival and the Lord touch (impartation) me through some brothers. Ever since that day my life has never been the same. When we read what the fruit of the Holy Spirit are, these are not just words but these are actually things we should be tapping into. These are actual tangible feelings that we should be experiencing. This is why we have God’s Spirit because we don’t have to no longer try to muster up being joyful, or peaceful, or being loving, or anything else to be like Christ because God gives us these things. We no longer have to rely on our own strength, now all we have to do is just yield to the Holy Spirit. This joy and contentment is nothing like anything from this world. Truly it is from our Father. This is why Jesus says things like this, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubles and do not be afraid”. After going to these revivals (SM7/Glory Gatherings) I understand God has really provided everything we need to be content in our relationship with Him but many will miss it because the lack of intimacy with Him.

So to conclude, having a relationship with God is the best relationship you can ever, ever, ever have. Nothing on the planet will ever come close. It is so fulfilling no matter where you are at in this life because you will not be standing alone. God is so eager to be in our lives and the proof is when He sent His Son (Jesus) to die in our place. No one but God through His son could ever pay the penalty for our sin. Then even after that He blessed us with every spiritual gift needed to overcome this world. This is so amazing!

Side Note: Many people focus only on the wrath of God instead of the mercy God. Jesus is God screaming out to you that He loves you with great intensity. Focusing only on the wrath of God will of course produce a fear based and religious mindset that will keep you like ancient Israel staying at the bottom of the mountain, keeping you from being like Moses who had an intimate relationship with God. God wants you to come up and out of the fearfully mindset and have a beautiful relationship with Him.
