So, for today’s conversation I would like to discuss on the topic of “commanding your day”. Many of us are surrounded by different forms of difficulty. It may be people, circumstances, or even what may be going on in our minds. No matter what it may be though, you can and need to chose how you will see your day.

This conversation comes from my current work place. Whether its my workplace, me being exhausted, or not seeing my personal goals being accomplished as fast as I would like them to, I still have to often remind myself that I can still decided how I want to see each day. I am surrounded by people who have their own personality with their own perceptions and at times their conversations can become contagious. I think we can all agree that we all have fallen into that state where you are trying to stay positive but then your surroundings can cause you to become negative. Finally I realized that certain people around me were pulling into their drama and I knew that I was going to have to take a stance against it in order to come back to my place of resting in the Lord.

One way to accomplish this is by not allowing others to lead your day. What I mean is that as you become aware of the type of people and even the environment that you are surrounded by, you have to become bold in your stance. An example of this is when a negative, dramatic coworker is coming towards you, you can tell them straight up that today is going to be an amazing day. The other day I did this and that person understood what I meant. When it comes down to your environment and customers you can chose to have a grateful heart towards God and when negative individuals come towards you, you can chose to give them the bare minimal in conversation. The other day I had the wonderful opportunity implementing this advice and the person I believe understood my silence said so much more than any words spoken. Remember you do not have to respond. Negative people just want you to speak to keep the drama going but do not take the bait.

Overall, if you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by external negativity, then always spend time with the Lord, enjoy His presence by getting quiet and mediating on Him, and ask Him to help you everyday to be at rest through your day. In Philippians 4:13, it says, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me”. And in James 1:5, it says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” These two scriptures helps us to understand that God wants us to seek and look to Him for guidance and help. Remember that you are not alone but you have the Holy Spirit that will lead you the way you should go. Even if you fall, don’t stay down and feel sorry for yourself. Instead know that God is for you and He wants you to succeed and that is amazing news!

Side Note: Remember, “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” -Romans 8:28-29
